Description
A striking studio portrait of a distinguished European gentleman with an exceptionally long flowing beard, photographed by George Bradshaw & Co. in India. The reverse bears a contemporary presentation inscription dated May 18, 1900, reading “Yours Sincerely” and signed “J. F. Mackay” (the surname is somewhat indistinct but is most likely read as Mackay). The dated autograph strongly suggests the photograph was personally inscribed by the sitter as a keepsake or presentation piece, adding both historical interest and a direct personal connection to the portrait. A handsome example of late Victorian portrait photography from British India.
Condition
Light overall age toning and minor surface wear consistent with age. Mount with light edge and corner wear. Contemporary ink inscription and date on the reverse. Overall well-preserved with strong image contrast.
