Description

This richly colored French chromolithograph depicts the Mughal emperor Babur (r. 1526–1530) riding beneath a ceremonial parasol amid an elaborate imperial procession. Attended by mounted retainers, musicians, standard-bearers, and camel escorts, the composition reflects the European fascination with the pageantry and courtly splendor of Mughal India during the late nineteenth century. Printed by Firmin Didot et Cie., Paris, the image forms part of a celebrated series illustrating the history and costumes of India.

Condition

Very good condition. The sheet is clean and well preserved with strong, vibrant original hand-coloring. Light, even age toning is present, most noticeable in the margins. A few minor spots of foxing and scattered handling marks are visible, along with faint surface soiling consistent with age.
