Description

This chromolithograph depicts three high-ranking figures of the Mughal Empire, drawn from historical Indian costume and court portraiture. The central figure is identified as a seventeenth-century Indian prince, while the left figure is Murad Bakhsh, son of Shah Jahan and brother of Aurangzeb, and the right figure is an unidentified sovereign of Delhi. Published in Paris by Firmin Didot, the print formed part of Albert Racinet’s celebrated survey of world costume and ornament, illustrating the richness of Mughal dress, textiles, weaponry, and courtly fashion for a European audience.

Condition

Very good condition. The sheet is clean and well preserved with strong, vibrant original hand-coloring. Light, even age toning is present, most noticeable in the margins. A few minor spots of foxing and scattered handling marks are visible, along with faint surface soiling consistent with age.
