Description

French chromolithograph depicting Mughal emperors and noblewomen after Indian miniature paintings, including portraits of the emperors Humayun and Farrukhsiyar. Printed by Firmin-Didot of Paris for Le Costume Historique, the plate reflects the European fascination with Indian court culture and costume, combining richly detailed royal portraits with scholarly historical commentary on the reverse. A fine example of nineteenth-century chromolithographic printing and Orientalist publication.

Condition

Very good condition. The sheet is clean and well preserved with strong, vibrant original hand-coloring. Light, even age toning is present, most noticeable in the margins. A few minor spots of foxing and scattered handling marks are visible, along with faint surface soiling consistent with age.
