Description

Late 19th-century chromolithograph from Albert Racinet’s celebrated Le Costume Historique, depicting the Mughal emperors Azam Shah (1706–1707) and Shah Alam I (1707–1712), together with a Rajput prince. Richly detailed with court dress, jeweled turbans, ceremonial sword, and falcon, the plate exemplifies the high-quality Parisian color printing for which Racinet’s work is renowned. The reverse retains the original French descriptive text identifying the historical figures and their attire. An attractive example of one of the most influential costume publications of the nineteenth century.

Condition

Very good condition. The sheet is clean and well preserved with strong, vibrant original hand-coloring. Light, even age toning is present, most noticeable in the margins. A few minor spots of foxing and scattered handling marks are visible, along with faint surface soiling consistent with age.
